BESTFRIEND & CREATIVE DUO, BASED IN HAWAII & PARIS.
They say true friendship is built on love. On a February morning, we spent time with Naia Griessman and Nani Gruet, whose connection stretches from Hawaii to Paris. Decades in, their bond is effortless yet unwavering—a reflection of how shared vision and deep connection creates something rare and lasting.

What about your friendship inspires you most?
Naia / Our friendship feels more like family. I’ve often struggled with putting plans into action and seeing the bigger picture, but she balances me out perfectly. It might sound cliché, but we’re truly like yin and yang. Not only do I have a friend who truly sees me, but someone who inspires me to find my flow and chase my potential. She pushes me to be better, to dream bigger, and to trust myself more, she is a powerhouse of authenticity and I admire that so, Plus the countless belly laughs we’ve shared have been the glue that keeps us grounded It’s been an absolute privilege to have her by my side even if she’s on the other side of the planet most of the times haha
Nani / What inspires me the most is the balance we have in everything we do together. We know each other so well, and I truly see Naia as an inspiration. Even though we come from such different backgrounds and environments, we work seamlessly together, which makes our creative process so exciting. I also love that I can trust her completely—her vision always feels just right to me. I’ve always had a deep emotional connection to her art, and we share this strong artistic bond that goes beyond collaboration. Our dynamic is special, not just creatively but personally as well. She’s not just my best friend; I see her as my sister.
Before starting a creative project, do you have any rituals or routines that help spark your inspiration and get you into the flow?
Naia / I haven’t really found a ritual before I create yet, but it’s something I feel deeply drawn to cultivate. The art that feels the most me usually happens when I let go of all the pressure and let the process guide me. I’m most inspired to create when my emotions are overflowing, when I have so much to say but can’t find the right words. That’s when my art becomes my voice, and the bridge to express something without actually saying it, hoping people can feel it rather than just understand it. I want to take more intentional time to find that space where everything flows, where my head and heart are fully aligned. I’m still searching for that “zone,” but I know that when I find it, the truest reflection of me will shine through in my art.
Nani / I love travelling or immersing myself in an environment that connects directly to my inspiration. For example, if I’m working on a ski-wear collection, I’ll go to the mountains, take photos of the snow, observe how people dress, and absorb the atmosphere. Moodboarding is also a huge part of my process. I spend hours refining the vision, playing with colours, and making sure every detail feels just right. Colour, especially, is a major element in shaping my creative direction. I’m in the process of relaunching vintage pieces my dad created in the ’90s. It’s a mix of rebranding and reworking these designs to give them new life, bringing my heritage in fashion back into the present.
